I have two distinct memories of Gulf Greyhound Park in Houston, Texas.
The first, is of my uncle leaping over two rows of bleachers in celebration, as his dogs finished First, Second, and Third at Gulf Greyhound Park, claiming the Trifecta. I'd never seen a man so exuberant before that night.
"Everything old was new again" across the June long weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park for the new Sydney Classic Speed Festival. The inaugural event focused on the Golden Era of racing in the ‘60s and ‘70s, showcasing its fantastic cars and even some of the fabulous drivers!
Spekture couldn't wait to see this
Every Saturday morning from 7-10am south of the Las Vegas Strip, Las Vegas’s official Cars and Coffee takes place. I’ve been planning on attending this event for some time, but it wasn’t until the last weekend in May that I was able to attend. With the crazy weather Sin City
Open wheeled racing is nothing new to the motor city. Between 1982 and 1988 Detroit hosted a race on the Formula 1 circuit. The Detroit Grand Prix, in its early existence, saw the likes of "the professor" Alain Prost and the legendary Ayrton Senna take victories here on the streets
Originally, I had planned to bring my Hyundai Veloster out to the monthly Houston Coffee and Cars gathering at Memorial City Mall. Well, plans quickly changed a few days before and I wasn’t sure if I would be able to make it at all. Morning of the event, I was in fact
Sydney Dragway hosted this weekend's 2017 GTR Festival for a gathering of all things Nissan. A bloodline of Japanese automotive history, few need any introduction to the GTR badge. A hero car for myself in the 1990's, I couldn't wait to make my way out to the event, (kid in tow!)
While searching for more comic and anime conventions to attend, I came across Alamo City Comic Con located in… you guessed it, San Antonio (for those of you who guessed "Alamo City" no marks!), but if you're from Texas, you should of guessed correctly. Unfortunately it was over a holiday weekend
I was still feeling energized from my last Anime convention, and I was looking forward to my next con. Fortunately for me, my entire family enjoys going to comic conventions too, even though it’s been awhile since we have all been able to go at once. Since they all missed out
It’s been awhile since we have hosted a car meet, so we decided to host one with Remtech Detailing Solutions to kick off the year with some more meets from us. After the original date was pushed back, the day was finally approaching. A few strips down our friends over
After missing last month’s Houston Coffee and Cars gathering, I returned to Memorial City Mall to partake in this month’s meeting and see what all would be on display. As I walked out of the house that Saturday morning, I was greeted with an unseasonably cold breeze for May, in
If someone had asked me what I thought of Swedish or Scandinavian Car Culture a few months ago, I probably would have responded with thoughts about lots of rally-type cars, some lowered Volvos, a few Mercedes, BMWs, and the occasional Audi sprinkled into the mix, even though Sweden is the
As the warmer months of summer dwindle here in Australia, disappointment slowly sets in amongst motoring enthusiasts. Many are forced to accept the realisation that the end of car show and event season is upon us! Whilst many of the circuit racing and professional race championships are still in full
Topeka, Kansas has not seen an Import Face-Off (IFO) event since 2013 when the track, Heartland Park, was closed due to lack of ownership. Heartland Park was bought again a few years later and began hosting events and throwing money at the road course and other areas that needed a
Here in Southeast Idaho, we kick off every spring with the annual 'Chrome in the Dome' car show which takes place in the Holt Arena of Idaho State University. The only enclosed collegiate stadium in the U.S. Each year hundreds of car and bike owners come from all over Idaho, Utah,
Anime Matsuri XI has come and gone. Now, for many of us, it’s time to start counting down 'til next year’s convention. Not sure what Anime Matsuri is? Well ‘matsuri’ is a Japanese word meaning "festivals," and Anime Matsuri is Houston's largest anime and Japanese culture convention, held annually for
Recently I found myself going through the massive catalog of photos I have in search for a particular set of photos. I stumbled across a complete album of photos that were never processed and publish. They were from last year’s Anime Matsuri convention. With this years beginning tomorrow, I figured
Having lived in Las Vegas for 18 years, I’ve seen the local car scene go through cycles of varying levels of interest and enthusiasm. Even though the city hosts some very prominent events such as a NASCAR race, two NHRA races, and the SEMA convention every year, it’s never seen
This year’s Shelby Bash was a resounding success! Held from March 8th to March 12th, this was the 10th anniversary of a gathering of owners and fans of the cars of Carroll Shelby from all over the world. A number of VIP’s and celebrities even attended the event, among them
This weekend saw the 2017 QBE Insurance Festival of Speed kick off at Sydney Motorsport Park. Formally known as the Barry Sheene Festival of Speed, 2017 marked the 14th year of the world-class historic motorcycle race in Australia. The event itself however is much more than just a motorcycle race.
It's March once again and the start of the Spring season in the states. For the gearheads it means getting out of the garage finally and putting those winter projects to the test. Spring also signifies the abundance of car shows, meets, track days, and competitions! There are several flagship
Life in the fast lane is what Texas Speed Syndicate is all about. On Sunday, February 26th, 30 high performance drivers from across the country with their mean, track eating machines headed off to Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas for the opportunity to experience that during the Q30 event.
Recently, there has been a trend of cooler temperatures in Houston for the first weekend of January and February. March seemed like it continued the trend with the temperatures dropping for the monthly car gathering held at Memorial City Mall. Hopefully this trends continues through summer with cooler days for one of Houston's largest
To many people across the country, and even world wide, Lone Star Throw down is considered the official start to show season every year. It is a massive custo...
Ocala Florida isn't know for a lot of things, but we do have a few good car shows and events every year. Last year, I attended WannaGOFAST for the first time and it quickly rose to the top of my favorite local shows. I had been waiting in anticipation for
Import Face-off is a hybrid car show and race event that travels the United States to various cities. Twice a year, IFO makes a stop at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown just outside Houston, which usually takes place in February and September. This past Sunday marked the date for the
It was once again time for the monthly Coffee and Cars event here in Houston, and with the city also hosting this year's Super Bowl, I was curious to see what it would draw in as far as out-of-town visitors and their rides. The sky looked clear with no chance
I love Bathurst… Whether its club car racing, GTs, open wheelers, Australia’s Supercar Series, or the annual 12hr event, the layout and technical aspects of the circuit always makes for an entertaining race. This place holds the type of mystique and character of famous tracks such as Spa and the
During my travels to other cities, there's one thing I like to do if I have the time, and that is to check out the local car scene. This past weekend, a few friends and I made the journey up north to Albuquerque, New Mexico for the weekend. Before arriving,
Here in Detroit we love our cars, so as summer turns into fall, and then winter, most of us go through a serious automotive withdrawal. That is, until January rolls around…the beginning of a new year and the start of the North American International Autoshow (NAIAS). During preview week, media
It’s been some time since I drove my Veloster out to a meet, or even a car show. So when Hot Import Nights returned to Houston back in December, I registered my ride to be in the show. Success, the little Veloster was approved so I purchased the car registration
With the crazy weather for the month of December, the annual toy drive hosted at the Houston Coffee and Cars gathering was delay to the month of January. Rain is one factor that can dramatically reduce the attendance of an outdoor event, and the first weekend of December was pretty
They say "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas," but that no longer applies when the SEMA show is in town. Last month, I took a trip to the City of Sin for an all-out barrage of ten foot tall pick-up trucks, diesel converted lead sleds and the intoxicating smoke of tire-decimating drifting events that
