Import Face-Off – Thunder Valley Raceway – September 2016

It was a warm day in the heartland and today another Import Face-Off event came to Thunder Valley Raceway in Noble, Oklahoma. Don’t know what IFO is? Import Face-Off is a series of race and show inspired events. It features a full on car/truck/bike show, 1/4 drag racing, audio competitions, models, a burnout contest, DJs, and various vendors. IFO also gives away trophies and cash prices. You can find more details about their upcoming shows all over the US here: Import Face-Off Homepage

If you’ve never been to an IFO, watch this video below to get a little insight into what the day will be about:

Throughout the day you will see all ages, car clubs, race pit crews, and vendors enjoying a common theme. CARS!! Whether it’s show, specific brand, track, or audio, there is something for everyone. Walk up to a car, ask the owner questions, or just walk through and take it all in, and you will find appreciation for those willing to spend their time and resources into their choice project. You’ll see anything from mildly modified stock cars, to conversions, to heavily modified variants of cars.

While the show is one thing, drag racing is completely different. Instead of polish and shine we fixate on grip and power. Getting a vehicle down a 1/4 mile strip isn’t anything hard, but getting a vehicle down a 1/4 mile strip in under 11 seconds is something else all together. You might ask yourself shaving off a second does not sound like THAT big a difference well here is some comparisons both exotic and things you might see on the road practically every day:

  • 2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S: 10.9sec @ 127mph (Dupont Registry)
  • 2012 McLaren MP4-12C: 10.9sec @ 135mph (Dupont Registry)
  • 2016 Ford Mustang GT: 13.2sec @109.8mph (Road & Track)
  • 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS: 12.4 @114.1mph (Road & Track)
  • 2015 Subaru WRX: 13.7 @99.5mph (Road & Track)
  • 2002 Subaru WRX: 14.3@95mph (MotorWeek)

So now that you have a pulse on what some cars make going down the 1/4 strip here is a 360 video of Ryan “Paco” Bhuvasorakul’s Bugeye Subaru WRX going down the strip for a 10.57sec pass.

The beauty of this tastefully built Bug-eye is the final came down between Paco and our friend Kong Chang in his McLaren. Separated by only .15sec, you can see just how much pride can be had from building a car for this purpose. A great sunny day in the heartland and the end of another Import Face-Off.
