Import Face-Off Baytown Sept 2016

With the cooler weather approaching, car show season begins to ramp up here in the Houston area. First one for the fall show season is usually the Import Face-Off car show and drag event at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown. Initially the show was supposed to be in October, but it was moved up a bit due to some conflict. Andrew and I made out way across the city to check it out and provide some coverage.

I wasn’t only going to cover the event, but also to participate in the car show with my Hyundai Veloster. Andrew helped me a bit in the morning while I was washing the car before we headed out there. Once we arrived, I had to do another wipe down of the car, then we grabbed out gear and made our way around the event.

The races had already begun, so I headed off to the drag strip to allow the other show participants to finish setting up and cleaning their rides.  After watching a few cars race down the track, I made my way back to the show area making a stop by the dyno to capture live footage for our Facebook page.

I’m really digging the Zombie themed GLI.

Something you usually don’t see out here.

It was a cloudy day, which helped a bit as I walked around row by row snapping photos. Every so often I had to make my way to some shade as it was a fucking hot day out here. This is part of the reason the show is usually in October, cooler weather for an outdoor event.  Andrew had to make some run for shade as well, with the heat his camera would shut off every now and then.  Texas heat is no joke, and even though it wasn’t the middle of summer, it was still plenty hot out here.

There were some nice rides out here, I definitely had some competition in the show to go up against. It’s mostly imports, but others are welcomed. I continued my coverage in the show area and back to the drag strip to capture some more action. After several hours of being out here, we were about done. We only had a few hours left but Andrew started to get sick so we ducked out a bit early missing the award ceremony. Halfway home, Andrew’s voice was almost gone when he got a text saying I had won the award for Best Korean. At first I couldn’t hear him and then I realized what he was trying to say. I wasn’t expecting to win so I was a bit surprised but very ecstatic. It’s time for me to do change it up a bit and do some more work to my ride and see what we can do at next year’s show, going to try for a second trophy.
