Driftcon 2018

Every year there are two Driftcon events at Evergreen Speedway: Driftcon and Driftcon AfterDark – and even if you are not in Washington State, both events are well worth a trip to the PNW.

Driftcon is more than a drifting competition. It’s a spectacle of its own – with a car show, vendor show, team tandem competition, drifting games, Hoon Off challenge, and is usually associated with a local Evergreen Drift ProAm round, which brings more competitors together and always makes for added entertainment. In just four years since its first edition, Driftcon has become a premier event at Evergreen, and one of the most attended drifting events in the PNW after Formula Drift Seattle.

To make things more exciting, our local Pro1 and Pro2 competitors always remember their Evergreen Drift family – or EVD as we usually say – and try to come back to the home track with their Formula Drift cars and put on a great show for the spectators and the rest of the local racing crowd. This racetrack has sent several Pro competitors to Formula Drift, and it’s always great to see them come back for the local competition, in addition to the Seattle FormulaD stop.

This year was no exception, as Pro2 driver Patrick Heald and Pro1 driver Cameron Moore (“The Butcher”) were in Monroe to participate in Driftcon, after racing in FormulaD at Road Atlanta.

The ProAm round ended with Cameron Moore, Shawn Olin, and Chase Schmidt on the podium, and with Joseph Lin retaining his top spot in the season series points classification.

The Hoon-Off competition was a crowd favorite as always, who doesn’t like to see high horsepower cars burn off a set of tires? This time, the Evergreen crowd got to cheer on their own Ben Whyte “Danger Ben”, who is also competing in the ProAm series for this season.

In addition to the Hoon-Off, the team tandem was another crowd favorite.
